Young Carers Awareness Day

Young Carers Awareness Day

Being a young carer can have a big impact on the things that are important to growing up. It can affect a young person’s health, social life and self-confidence. Many struggle to juggle their education and caring, with 1 in 20 missing school because of their caring role. In a survey, 39% said that nobody in their school was aware of their caring role. 29% of young adult carers dropped out of college or university.

Young Carers Awareness Day this Thursday 25th January is all about raising awareness of the 700,000 young carers and 350,000 young adult carers here in the UK. They are likely to be in every school, college, university and workplace.

If you know a young person who is looking after a loved one please let them know there is support and help available. Contact Carer Support Wiltshire on 0800 181 4118. For resources for schools visit https://carers.org/young-carers-awareness-day-2018
