Wiltshire Women’s Institutes

The Women’s Institute is probably the largest and most widely known women’s organisation and over the years it has not only survived, but thrived. The Wiltshire federation came into being in 1919 following the establishment of six WI’s.There are currently over 4000 members in 125 WIs across the county and the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre in Chippenham holds an array of archive material from many of them.
