Older residents are slipping along to Salisbury City Hall to pick up free pairs of slippers.

Wiltshire Council’s housing team in partnership with Wiltshire Area Boards and Salisbury City Council are holding the Expo event for over 55s on 15 May.

The day will also feature:

  • Free tea and coffee
  • Chair Zumba sessions
  • Web surfing help
  • Health checks
  • Exercise, theatre and craft demonstrations
  • Advice and information stands

Richard Clewer, Wiltshire Council cabinet member for corporate services, housing, heritage, arts and tourism, said: “We welcome all residents aged over 55 to what is sure to be an enjoyable day.

“There will be plenty of entertainment as well as experts offering advice on a whole range of issues.”

Admission is free.

The slipper exchange is available only to over 65s who request a pair by 27 April. Call 0300 456 0117 (+option 5) or email

Ill-fitting and worn-out slippers are one of the major causes of household accidents among senior citizens.
