Salisbury area board Pledges £20k for the city’s athletics track

The Salisbury Area Board considered a bid for £20k to upgrade the city’s athletics track currently within the grounds of South Wiltshire Grammar School for Girls.  This commitment was requested as part of a £110k Sport England Lottery Bid.  The project will include laying a new base, a full resurface, the addition of specialist disability fixings and the relocation of a throws cage. Making these improvements will improve the experience of existing users and will also allow City of Salisbury Athletics and Running club to attract new members. As part of this project, community access at the track will be increased from 2 to 7 days a week allowing the club to meet demand and to develop new targeted participation opportunities.  The current track is the only facility of its type available for community access in Wiltshire.  An update on this project will come to the board’s May meeting when.  For more information, contact Karen Linaker on 01722 434697 karen.linaker@wiltshire.gov.uk.
