Over 60 members of the community, ranging from residents, charities, local councillors, police, churches, citizens advice volunteers and poverty action groups attended the Salisbury area board meeting last night to discuss how together we can better respond to the needs of the city’s rough sleepers.
From the many different perspectives put by those present, the message was clear, that the community has much sympathy for those who sleep rough on the city’s streets and that there is genuine support for all working to help them.
Although, compared to many other cities, the number of people sleeping rough in Salisbury is small, the community made it clear to the board last night that it would like to see more expert support, and more resources invested to tackle the root cause of rough sleeping locally.
More updates will follow from last night’s discussion and further opportunities will arise for the community to get involved in this work.
