New support for people living with dementia in Salisbury

Carers and people living with dementia in Salisbury have two new sources of support.

Gracewell Healthcare’s care home is hosting a monthly carers group which coincides with its own Teapot Club reminiscence sessions.  This means that family carers can get together to socialise and gain information and support from Alzheimer’s Support care coordinator Amanda Smith, while the person they care for is being supported in a structured and friendly group.

Amanda said: “The first meeting was a great success and we are so grateful to Gracewell for making this possible. It is wonderful for carers to be able to chat, knowing that the person they care for is attending an activity in a caring environment.”   The group is held on the third Wednesday of each month.

Meanwhile, Tesco in Salisbury is offering its community room and providing refreshments for a fortnightly coffee morning for people living with dementia and their carers. The next meetings will be on September 6 and 20th and October 4 and all are welcome to come along.  For more information on either group call Amanda on 07702 911777.
