Conservation of a rare Visigoth Brooch

Conservator Gabby Flexer based at the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre, Chippenham recently worked on a rare brooch uncovered during excavations undertaken by Operation Nightingale and Wessex Archaeology at Barrow Clump on Salisbury Plain. It was found in grave goods associated with a female burial and arrived at the conservation labs after x-radiography revealed the decorative copper alloy inlay.
The brooch is thought to be only the second of its kind found in this country.
