We currently have the opportunity for a full time Casework Support Officer to join our Corporate Functions and Procurement Team based in County Hall, Trowbridge on a fixed-term contract until March 2019.

The UK Government’s Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (VPRS) prioritises help for survivors of torture and violence, women and children at risk, and those in need of medical care. The Government work with UNCHR to identify suitable cases and with Wiltshire Council and our partners to ensure the specific needs of these vulnerable individuals are met. Specialist knowledge and skills are used to work with the individuals, their family, community and services to promote independence and achieve a positive outcome for them during their time in the UK.

About the role – for the last 3 years, the Council has been part of a national programme to resettle refugees from Syria into the UK. The Refugee Programme Board oversee the work on the delivery of the VPRS in Wiltshire with a commitment to excellent partnership working and delivering results for customers; supporting the delivery of this work therefore means evidence of strong team working skills and flexibility is essential.

The role of the caseworker is to act as the first point of contact for the resettled families, providing them with assistance and support to ensure that their issues are resolved and to assist in their transition into UK life. There will be a varied caseload and ensuring families can access public services and are supported towards independence will be a priority.
