Salamander is an experiential development programme run by Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service designed to increase motivation, improve communication skills and raise personal aspirations. The course was created 10 years ago as a youth-based community engagement project and since then has to grown into a well-known and well-respected arm of the fire service. In recent years we have expanded our remit and now work with a variety of organisations across the public, voluntary and private sectors. During the course participants are able to take part in a variety of activities including hose running, abseiling, ladder climbing, search and rescue, casualty care, water rescue and road traffic collisions (casualty extraction). We also have optional modules available in Emergency First Aid, Employability and Health & Safety, and are working with the The purpose of Salamander is to inform, educate, challenge and motivate the participants to make a change for the better, whether at work, at school or at home. The traditional course is 5 days in length, however each Salamander course is bespoke and we can create a course length that suits you. In the past we have run a wide variety of course, ranging from 2-week long courses for local secondary schools to 1-day team building experiences for local businesses. Salamander is run from various fire stations across Wiltshire, with the main bulk of our courses taking place in Trowbridge, Swindon, Chippenham and Salisbury (although we are able to provide other locations in some circumstances). The course is run by fully trained, operational firefighters and as such we only have the capacity to hold a certain number of course each year. We have a number of courses booked in over the next few months so please note, we are we are only able to take bookings from May 2016 onwards. We run a limited number of courses every month and bookings are taken on a first-come-first-serve basis
